[ mood | angry ]

Hi! First of all, I have never been here before, but I hope you guys are interested in hearing what i have to say.

My name is Loretta and I'm a student at UofT. I'm Chinese and I'm born in Hong Kong. Right now I'm organizing a small gathering to speak out against the impending demolition of the beloved Star Ferry terminal in Central. If you've never been to HK... trust me... it's the one thing that defines what's special about the place. If you've been there, I think you know what I mean. (Read about it here:

The gathering will take place at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HK SAR representative in Toronto) on November 17 (Friday) starting at noon. The address is 174 St. George Street, it's just across the subway station.

Frankly, I shouldn't be doing this since I have an assignment due and a test this week, but if there's anything that I'll regret not doing a thing about, this is it. I can't bear to see the Star Ferry go down... and maybe it's the same for you too.

Tell a friend, spread the word and do show up.
If you're interested in organizing this event, pls contact me. (416-841-9442)

Thanks in advance!

I Heart Beijing, Do You? [31 Oct 2006|10:46am]

So... on my blog I'm doing an informal poll: why do you like Beijing? (If you haven't been to Beijing/China then please ignore). I'm writing a play about life in Beijing and I'd love to hear back about what other people love/hate about this city :)

(this is x-posted in a couple of communities that I'm pretty sure have some overlaps, so sorry if you get spammed with this... maybe its a good indicator that you really do heart beijing) ;)

Heya! I was wondering if anyone knows of any asain type shops in the market? I know there are some in ChinaTown. I just remember going to a little shop once in the market and I can't seem to find it anyone. (I may be looking in the wrong spot) It wasn't over the top anime so much as held tons of asian goodies (ie: food, grass matts, chop sticks, stationary...etc.) Any info on any shops like this in the market would be very appreciated =]

VOTE [23 Jan 2006|11:46am]
At the bottom of all the tributes paid to democracy is the little man, walking into the little boooth, with a little pencil, making a little cross on a little bit of paper - no amount of rhetoric or voluminous discussion can possibly diminish the overwhelming importance of the point.
- Winston Churchill

For those of you living under a rock, today is election day in Canada. If you're over 18, get out there and VOTE (if you haven't already).

Didn't get a voter registration card? No problem! Bring a piece of ID and proof that you live where you live with you to your local voting booth and present it.

Not living at home? Again, no problem. You can vote in the riding you're currently living in. Just do the above.

Don't want to vote for any of the candidates? Refuse your ballot. Go to the booth, get your ballot, then turn it right back in and say you refuse it. That will be recorded as a refused ballot.

DO NOT SPOIL YOUR BALLOT Spoiled ballots are not recorded as anything and you will have lost your chance to be counted.

DO NOT SIT ON YOUR DUFFS AT HOME WHINING ABOUT HOW ALL POLITICIANS ARE THE SAME There is no reason not to vote. As I said, if you don't want to vote, refuse your ballot, but if you sit at home, you didn't even put in the effort to do THAT.

If you didn't even try to participate in the process, you have no leg to stand on if you try to complain about the future government.

The system isn't perfect, but we should all still participate in our democratic process. I don't care who you vote for, just go out there and make yourself heard.

Hello, I am new to the community and I just thought I would make a quick introduction. My name is Lyndah and I am 20 years old. I will be turning 21 in March! My mother is Vietnamese and my father is half Chinese from what we know so far (we recently learned that my grandmother was adopted and we are still tracing back her family tree!). I was born in Canada and I have lived in the GTA my whole life. I joined this community to learn more about the Asian-Canadian culture. Anything else I'd like to share ...... I am fluent in Vietnamese, however my Cantonese is a little rusty but I intend to brush up my skills sometime soon C=
